A client didn't receive their magic-link email

Clients sign in to their portal with a single-use magic link — no password. If a client says they never got theirs, here's the fast path.

First: copy the link and send it yourself

You don't have to rely on email to test. Open the client, go to their contact, and copy their magic link directly. Send it over any channel you already use with them, or paste it into a private browser window to confirm the portal works. This unblocks the client immediately while you sort out email.

Then: figure out why the email didn't arrive

  • Check spam/junk on the client's side first — it's the most common answer.
  • Confirm your SMTP is working with a test email. If email isn't sending at all, see Set up email sending (SMTP).
  • Deliverability: without SPF/DKIM on your sending domain, mail can be silently filtered. That looks exactly like "they didn't get it."

Good to know about magic links

  • They're single-use and expire, so they're safe to send by email — a forwarded old link won't grant access.
  • If you think a link was exposed, you can revoke a contact's live links and issue a fresh one.
  • You can resend a link at any time from the contact.
